On 7th December 2022, the University of Trento approved its Open Science Policy (2022). This policy is the result of a collaborative effort by a dedicated group of scholars. It builds upon the principles that guided the drafting of the 2014 Policy on Open Access to Scientific Literature, later revised and expanded in 2020 under the same name.
The Policy, in addition to identifying actors fo its implementation, establishes general guiding principles, clarifies the meaning of recurring terms, and identifies the guidelines for activities in the field of open science. It identifies three main thematic areas of focus:
• Publications by university affiliates;
• Publishing House of the University;
• Research data and results.
The Policy designates the Open Science Committee as the official body responsible for the execution and oversight of its actions, while working groups serve as the operational arm supporting the Committee. Detailed objectives, strategies, and implementation tools fo the policy's three main thematic areas are outlined in specific regulations and guidelines.
On July 9, 2025, the University of Trento updated its University Policy on Open Science (2025). In the new version, the Policy recognizes the importance of the Barcelona Declaration, clarifies the definitions of green, gold, and diamond open access, and expands the members of the Open Science Commission.
