Transformative agreements are agreements between publishers and institutions, through the CRUI-CARE negotiating consortium (Conference of Italian University Rectors, Coordination Group for Access to Electronic Resources), which aim to transform the current “pay-per-view” model (read-only access to scientific journals) into a “Read&Publish” model, which allows open access publishing at no additional cost to authors from these institutions in “hybrid” journals (journals that may contain both open access and closed access articles) and “gold” journals (journals that publish only open access articles) from international publishers. In fact, the expenses are already included in the cost of the contract and are therefore borne upstream by the institutions until the available vouchers are exhausted.
Thanks to these agreements, authors from the University of Trento who wish to publish their articles in open access can take advantage of discounts or concessions (known as tokens or vouchers) on the payment of the APC (Article Processing Charge), up to the total coverage of costs.
In order to take advantage of the concessions indicated in the transformative contracts, certain clauses must be complied with:
- The submission request and the steps following acceptance of the article must be carried out by the corresponding author.
- The corresponding author must be formally affiliated with the University of Trento.
- Affiliation must be indicated when submitting the article to the journal.
- It is preferable to use the institutional e-mail address @unitn.it.
- Authors must belong to one of the following categories: Full, Associate, Assistant Professors, Technical and administrative staff, PhD students, Phd visiting students, Research fellows.
